COLLECTIONS

The collections here are associated with the following museum departments: European Decorative Art (sculpture, furniture, textiles and tapestries, graphic art, metalwork and the art of the gold- and silversmith, precision instruments, photography and film, glassware, ceramics, folklore, carriages and coaches, and arms and armour) and Non-European Civilizations (Prehistory to the Middle Ages). The library also manages a number of special collections, including a large collection of auction catalogues, an extensive collection of plans, and the architectural studies of the artists Emile Puttaert and Camille Tulpinck.

READING ROOM

The reading room is open to all for the purpose of study and research, but only with an appointment. An appointment can be made by sending an e-mail to the following address: bib@kmkg-mrah.be. Appointments are only possible during the following opening hours:

Monday:closed
Tuesday – Friday: 9.30 – 12.00 | 13.15 – 16.00
Saturday – Sunday: closed

Appointments should made at least 3 working days prior to your visit and will be confirmed by the library staff. Registration is required upon a first visit. Your registration will be valid for a period of one year.

Student (upon presentation of a valid student card): € 4.00
Others: € 7.00
The library can be used free of charge by the members of the Friends of the RMAH, Per Musea, the Vrienden van de Educatieve Dienst, Egyptological Association Queen Elisabeth, the Assyriological Center Georges Dossin.

 

CONSULTATION

With the exception of materials kept in the reading room, the other publications and documents are kept in closed stacks and can be consulted upon request. The majority of the materials are kept in external storerooms and may not be available immediately. To avoid waiting time, we recommend you send us, together with your request for an appointment, a list of the materials you wish to consult. All materials should be consulted in the reading room and can not be borrowed. We offer the possibility of borrowing publication through interlibrary loan. Please contact the library of your institution.
Photocopies can be made with prior approval from the library staff. Publications pre-dating 1900 can not be photocopied.
