Decorative arts of the 19th and 20th centuries

From Empire style to Art Nouveau, from the sweeping curves of Victor Horta to the clean lines of Gustave Serrurier-Bovy - whether working with ceramics, wood, textiles, ivory, or a combination of materials, each designer left their own mark on European decorative arts of the 19th and 20th centuries. Objects were specially designed to make everyday life more beautiful.

And now it’s your turn! Join the open ATELIER ouvert table, where a museum guide will challenge you to create your own beautiful designs. In October and December, we invite you to try a different activity.

In September, you can participate on no fewer than two days!

  • On Saturday, experiment to your heart’s content with pen, paper, and ink to invent the craziest fonts or design your own monogram, just like the artists of the period used to sign their works.
  • On Sunday, colour one of the exclusive postcards inspired by the collection using watercolour pencils, or create a geometric Art Deco motif based on the principles of the tangram.

Practical information

  • Saturday 20.09 and Sunday 21.09, continuously from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00.
  • Exceptionally free of charge, as part of Heritage Days.
  • The open ATELIER ouvert will also open its doors on 05.10 and 07.12.2025, from 14:00 to 16:00.
