The exhibition 'Back to Bruegel' is extended until April 18th 2021 !

The Halle Gate opens again after being closed for several months due to COVID-19. You can once again enjoy the beautiful panoramic view on Brussels from the top of the monument, visit the exhibition “Back to Bruegel” and the incredible architecture of the only preserved medieval city gate of Brussels. A new trail will not only allow you to discover the integrality of the building and the exhibition, but also give you access to a hidden medieval staircase. An experience not to be missed! Individual protection for the use of the virtual reality headsets, disinfected audio guides and access to unseen parts of the monument, the re-opening of the Museum Halle Gate has everything to allow you to (re)discover Medieval Brussels and the 16th century in complete safety.

The Halle Gate, a uniquely preserved section of the medieval defensive wall of Brussels, appeals to the imagination. It will also become a virtual gateway into Bruegel's universe. Virtual reality technology will carry you into an astonishing immersion in Bruegel's paintings. For of the masters works will come to life and transport you into the daily life of some 450 years ago. 

Experience the 16th century in the flesh through face-to-face contact with original objects from the Royal Museums of Art and History, Rijksmuseum, Coudenberg, Museum of the City Brussels,...: treasures from the New World, musical instruments, scientific measuring devices, weapons and armour. Up above the old city gate, you can enjoy an impressive view over the city. And high-tech binoculars will provide you a virtual image of Brussels and the surrounding countryside on the time of Bruegel.

For families
Children can visit the exhibition with an adapted audio guide (Dutch/French).
After the exhibition, children can have a great time in the most beautiful outdoor playground of Brussels, located only 100 meters from the museum.
Adventure assured in this castle and medieval village with accompanying sandbox.

For the hearing impaired
The content of the audio guide is also available on a tablet in written version.

For the visually impaired
An audio guide is available in 6 languages.

For people with reduced mobility
A lift is available for people with reduced mobility (on request at the reception). The panoramic view of the city from wall walk of the Halle Gate is unfortunately only accessible by stairs.

Monday - Thursday: 9:30 - 17:00 (open on Mondays!)
Saturday - Sunday: 10:00 - 18:00
last tickets 1h30 before closing time!
Closed on Fridays   

Attention!: From November 7 2020 the Halle Gate will only be open on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
